ABOUT US
The Atlanta Society of Muslim Men (ASMM) was founded in 2002. The organization, initially called 100 Muslim Men, was formed in response to an urgent need to provide financial support for Mohammed Schools of Atlanta. As adult men of the Muslim Jam’at (community), the founders believed that as they were responsible to “protect” and “maintain” their families, they have an equal responsibility to “protect” and “maintain” the community and community life. They also recognized the need for an infrastructure that would both prepare and provide a means for Muslim men to fulfill their responsibility of community protectors and providers. The core group expanded its scope and changed the name of the organization.
ASMM coordinates and / or sponsors two programs:
Muhammad Ali Road Race
Quarterly Recognition Breakfast
The Father, Brother, Son Retreat
The Muhammad Ali Road Race is a 5-K race that was initially organized in 1980 by Muslim members of the Pyramid Track Club. The purpose of the race was to promote good health, raise funds for the Mohammed Schools, and provide an opportunity for students of the school to earn service hours. ASMM adopted sponsorship of the event in 2004. For the last two years, the organization has managed the coordination and management of the event.
The Quarterly Recognition Breakfast was initiated in 2004 to recognize achievements of male graduates of the Mohammed Schools. ASMM expanded the scope of the event to recognize the contributions of members of the general community to building and supporting community life consistent with the values and traditions of Islam as well as the personal and professional achievements of individuals. In addition to recognizing their efforts and accomplishments, the recognition serves as positive reinforcement for the honorees and as a model for other members of the community.
